Positive Attitude or Skills: What Will You Choose?

Will you hire someone with great skills but zero positive attitude?

2 days ago, I posted a requirement for a graphic design intern on a leading internship platform.

Along with the preexisting questions, I mentioned an additional question:

“On a scale of 0–10, how will you rate my current Instagram posts?”

200 applicants applied.

The majority of them answered, “10 or 9”.

Only 10 applicants cared to write in detail:

  • Why did they give a specific rating to my posts?
  • Elements that they liked;
  • Areas of improvement/ things they would like to do differently.

I hadn’t asked for a reason or detailed explanation.

But they volunteered.

So I shortlisted them for the next round even without looking at their portfolio.

  • You can learn to design.
  • You can learn to write.
  • You can also learn to code.

But positive attitude and mindset are the real characteristics that an employer or a hiring manager is looking for.

Even while working with a client, if you can do what the client hasn’t explicitly asked for, you earn brownie points.

Everyone, in this world, is looking to make their life easier and work less hectic.

Help them to do it. And you’ll always be in the game.

Remember, skills can be learned and acquired with time. But if you don’t have positive attitude and mindset in life, you will struggle in spite of being skillful at what you do.

Do you have a different point of view? Will you choose skills over positive attidue?

Let’s discuss in the comment section.
